How many accent pillows should go on a sofa?

Two matching pillows on a two-seat sofa is an exception: that pairing reads as balanced. For a large sectional, five to seven is reasonable, depending on depth. The Landyn is a good example: 50,000 Martindale, 76% Viscose construction, holds its pile under heavy use. Spot-clean only; the covers should not go in a washing machine. 

How do you choose accent pillows for a living room?

Start with one anchor piece, typically the sofa fabric or a dominant color in the rug, and build from there. If the sofa is neutral, a velvet accent pillow in a saturated color (deep blue, emerald, ochre) does the most visual work for the least risk. 

If the sofa is already patterned, a solid or subtly textured pillow keeps the room from competing with itself.
